From Heartbreak to Heroic Adventures: Why I Created The Loomies
Hi, I'm Heather – founder of The Loomies, chemical engineer by trade, and someone who believes that magic and science belong together.
In 2021, I faced the kind of heartbreak no one is ever ready for—I experienced six miscarriages, and with each one, my dream of becoming a mother began to fade. But from that pain came a calling I couldn't ignore: to take all the love I had saved up and pour it into something that would help other children grow into confident, curious, world-changing humans.
That's how The Loomies was born.
As an engineer, I watched with concern as fewer students chose STEM careers. I knew we needed to spark that sense of wonder earlier—and not with boring worksheets or rigid labs, but with stories, adventures, mystery, and play. I wanted kids to feel like heroes in their own story—the kind who mix magical potions, crack math codes, and solve galaxy-saving missions... all while learning science.
But The Loomies isn't just about learning. It's about confidence.
I didn't discover my own until I was almost 40. I spent years being underestimated, overlooked, and second-guessed. And yet—over and over—I've proven I can do hard things, and I want every kid to know they can too.
So when you see a child's eyes light up during one of our experiments—or shout "I got it!" as they solve the final clue—you're not just seeing a learning moment. You're witnessing a little spark of who they're becoming.
That's the world I'm building: A magical STEM universe filled with books, games, kits, centers, and stories where kids feel seen, powerful, and wildly capable of anything.
Because the truth is? Every kid has a hero inside them. And I'll spend the rest of my life helping them discover it.
